Words In Motion
Spellbound - Vol III Iss II

From Bernhard S., Nailsworth, SA, Australia -
How did Iva come to work with the various producers you've collaborated
with, and are there any others he'd like to work with?
Iva's answer -
Mostly recommended by the record company or managers... mostly unsuccessful
choices. These days I have less belief in the role of producers for my
own work as by now I believe I am as experienced as most of the current
assembly. Often producers have greatly encumbered a project with additional
expense and unnecessary delays. David Lord has contributed most in terms
of musical ideas.

What kind of synths were used on the song "Icehouse"? It's been
bothering me since 1981 and I just have to know! I'm guessing they used
a Prophet-5 for the bass drones and some model of Korg synth for the strings.
Iva's answer -
The song was directly the result of the purchase of a Solina String ensemble.
All the sounds were produced with this and a Boss Chorus unit. My recollection
is that there were only four sound combinations on that machine
strings
horns
violas, etc
with or without modulation.
I managed to use every available sound during the course of that one song
which is why various parts of the verses and choruses change slightly
in timbre
at the push of a button!
